Plasma fibroblasting technology, also known as "plasma pen" or "fibroblast treatment," is a non-surgical cosmetic procedure that uses a device to deliver a controlled electrical arc to the skin, causing it to contract and tighten. While this technology may seem new to some, it has actually been in use for several decades.
“Plasma energy has long been used in surgery for cautery purposes, and the first studies surrounding its aesthetic functions were done back in 2007 and 2008,” says Dr. Amelia K. Hausauer, a board-certified dermatologist in Campbell, California.
The first use of plasma for skin tightening can be traced back to the 1960s, when it was used in a surgical setting for the treatment of skin cancer. In the following decades, various forms of plasma technology were developed and used for various medical and cosmetic purposes.
One of the earliest forms of plasma fibroblasting technology was the "sublimation" method, which used a high-energy laser to vaporize skin cells, resulting in tightening and rejuvenation. This method was later refined to use lower energy levels and less invasive techniques, leading to the development of the plasma pen.
Plasma is the fourth state of matter, an ionized gas. The plasma pen works by delivering a small electrical arc to the skin, which causes the skin to contract and tighten. This is done by heating the skin to a specific temperature, which causes the collagen fibers in the skin to shrink and tighten. The result is a more youthful and lifted appearance.
While the plasma pen may be a newer and more refined version of plasma fibroblasting technology, it is not a new technology. It is built upon decades of research and development and is a proven and effective treatment for skin tightening and rejuvenation.
Why has plasma fibroblast suddenly become so popular? The answer is social media and the lockdowns. The lockdowns gave people the opportunity to get the procedure done and turn off their zoom camera so no one can see them. Yet posting their amazing before and after photos and their infamous “dot” photos.
