Permanent makeup, also known as cosmetic tattooing, is a popular procedure that involves tattooing pigment into the skin to create the appearance of makeup. This procedure can be used to enhance the eyebrows, create the illusion of eyeliner and lip liner, and even add color to the lips. While the concept of permanent makeup may seem relatively new, the practice has actually been around for thousands of years.

The origins of permanent makeup can be traced back to ancient Egypt, where both men and women used tattoos to enhance their appearance. In fact, many of the mummies found in Egypt have tattoos on their bodies, including their faces. These tattoos were often used to signify social status or religious beliefs.

Permanent makeup also had a place in ancient Greece and Rome, where it was used by both men and women to darken their eyebrows and create the illusion of eyeliner. In fact, the word "cosmetics" comes from the Greek word "kosmetikos," which means "skilled in adornment."

During the Middle Ages, permanent makeup fell out of favor in Europe, but it continued to be practiced in other parts of the world, including Asia. In the 20th century, permanent makeup made a comeback, thanks in part to the development of new tattooing techniques and sterilization methods.

Many well known actresses of the times have been rumored to have had permanent makeup procedures done, such as Marilyn Monroe, Joan Crawford, Elizabeth Taylor. to name a few.

Today, permanent makeup is a popular procedure that is performed by trained professionals around the world. While the procedure has come a long way since its early beginnings, the basic principle remains the same: to enhance the natural beauty of the face through the use of pigment.
